    Logic Stage Classroom Rules

    I. Behavioral rules

While we expect you to uphold the broader rules of the school, there are three main principles which you need to focus on this year in the classroom.

    1. Be kind.
    2. Don't talk out of turn.
    3. Obey the teacher and say, “Yes, sir” or “yes, ma'am.”
#1 means being polite to others, helping, and showing love and sacrifice in every way you can.
#2 means not talking during quizzes/tests or when the teacher or others are talking to the class.
#3 means what it says. Obey the teachers cheerfully and quickly; we represent your parents.

    II. Late Homework Rules

    1. No late papers or written assignments will be accepted for credit in any class.
If you're at school, your homework should be there too. Unless there are extenuating circumstances (see 3 below), late assignments will receive a 0 and parents will be notified. You must still turn in late assignments before the last day of the quarter.

    2. Reading which is completed late will be given partial credit so long as you complete it before the quarter ends. It's a better idea, if you get behind, to keep up with the rest of the reading but finish the late reading in the last week of the quarter.

    3. Work which is late because of unforeseen circumstances (such as sickness or family emergencies) may be turned in late by the number of days you were absent. E.g: if you were sick Thursday and Friday, you can turn in your assignment Wednesday of the following week (3). Your late work must be accompanied by a note of explanation from your parents.

      III. Tardiness Rules

      1. The teachers will be careful to hold classes on schedule. Students will have
5 minutes between classes to change books and binders and to get to the next room. If you are not standing by your chair by the time the bell rings, you will be counted tardy.

      2. 4 tardies in one quarter will receive an office visit.

      3. 8 tardies in one quarter will receive another office visit and a penalty12 tardies in one quarter will receive suspension from school for a time determined by the Director.

      4. Students start each quarter with a clean slate.

      5. Bathroom breaks: Instead of using the restroom during the period breaks, students should proceed to their next class and wait to ask the teacher for permission to use the restroom.

        Temporary logic stage location

        Dear Parents,

As you may have heard, we're going to be holding the Logic stage classes in a modular classroom unit which we are installing on the school grounds out in Umpqua. Unfortunately this unit will not be available for use until after the first three or four weeks of school.

However, the North Roseburg Evangelical Free Church is kindly allowing us to use some empty classrooms at the church (which is the same location for the first bus pickup). Please bring your child to the church around 8:15 a.m. Classes will start at the standard time, 8:30 a.m, so an extra fifteen minutes will allow the students to get organized for the day.

We're very excited to begin the new school year.

        Blessings on your day.

Wes Callihan and 'What is real education?'

        Dear Parents,

As a number of you may have heard or read, tomorrow night at 7:00 Wesley Callihan will be speaking at the Roseburg Country Club. His topic is "What is Real Education?" and he'll be outlining some of the differences between public schooling, private schooling. Part of his focus will be why we need distinctly Christian schooling.

If you can fit his talk into your Friday plans, I think you'll be encouraged and uplifted during the evening. Since 1997, he has been educating hundreds of high school students in church history, the Great Books, classical languages, and other scintillating subjects in his online teaching program 'Schola Tutorials.' Mr. Callihan also has a great perspective on the revival of Christian education this country is seeing, and has immense personal experience by being a Christian teacher himself.

If you can come, please try to bring a friend or another family you know might be interested. We'd love to have the Roseburg Country Club packed out.

Also, my apologies for sending this email out so late in the game.

        Blessings in Christ,

        Luke Nieuwsma

7th grade supply list and Secondary Orientation Night (Sept 2nd, 7:00)

        Dear 7th grade parents,

I hope you are all doing fantastically well and looking forward to school starting in a couple weeks! I've attached a list of supplies for the 7th graders; please purchase these and have them ready for your child by the first day of class (Tuesday, September 8th).

Also, there will be a Secondary Orientation Meeting at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, September 2nd, at the school in the 7th grade room. If both spouses could plan on attending this, that would be wonderful because there are several important items I'd like to discuss with you regarding curriculum and other academic issues which particularly apply to the Logic stage students (different expectations, methods, standards of behavior, etc). Please bring the informational packet which Mrs. Sieker handed out at the picnic, including the Secondary Curriculum Prospectus.

Also, I'll be posting the emails and updates I send out to parents on the Prayer Rock Academy Bulletin blog, http://prayerrockacademy.blogspot.com. If you ever can't find an email and need to refresh your memory about an upcoming event, you should be able to find the original announcement at that link.

Thanks much, and may God bless your day.
